Step 1 - Data Collection

NELP use data from three key sources to inform our CCA analysis
- Contextual Data - This is data relating to places which might theoretically influence the likelihood of the population being active, such as demographic, environmental, or social measures.
- Resource Data - This is data collected from our annual survey relating to the capacity, financial, and other resources supporting a place-based approach.
- Maturity Data - This is where we ask places to rate themselves on their maturity levels against the conditions in our System Maturity Matrix.
For a more detailed description of our data collection processes and how Places can get involved, please see the video below.
NELP and Sport England will ask Place Partnerships to indicate whether they will be taking part in the next round of Configurational Comparative analysis evaluation, usually by the end of August/early September. Sport England expects all Places in receipt of Full or Deepening funding to participate, but for Places in receipt of a Development award, participation is optional.
In 2025, we separated the SMM survey from the Resources Survey (Part One questions in last year’s survey – see separate guidance note). NELP will use responses to both of these surveys, together with other data collected, for Configurational Comparative Analysis. The survey responses will be collected via unique online links for each Place Partnership, to be circulated around the beginning of September, with a deadline for responses usually around the middle of October.
Please see the guidance for responding to the survey in supporting documents. This should be used along with the System Maturity Matrix and guidance.
