Collaboration

There is productive working around a common purpose.

Tackling the root causes of physical activity inequalities requires moving beyond siloed working. Uniting different organisations, sectors, and communities helps to spark innovation, align efforts, and drive sustainable, place-based change. This means:

  • Drawing on diverse skill sets, pooling resources, and reducing duplication to amplify what can be achieved together.
  • Working collectively to unravel the complex contradictions in local policies and practise that prevent physical activity or exacerbate inequalities.
  • Valuing everyone as an expert - from large public sector institutions to hyper-local community groups and ensuring that knowledge and resources flow fairly in all directions.
  • Working with communities and partners rather than doing to them. This involves intentionally building trust, navigating uncomfortable conversations, and ensuring there is mutual benefit for everyone involved.
